Tenderness Claws
It is great shame that my countless trips to the Greek Islands over many years have never either culminated (or concluded) in anything particularly romantic or spiritually memorable.. sometimes the plastic cups of life are not quite joined properly to their little piece of string..
Out of some frustration - relevant to the above statement, I can distinctly remember taking myself off to a quite spot one particular afternoon in the tiny coastal village of Agia Anna on the Island of Naxos. I found some shade under a cluster of small pine trees (the species of tree from which Retsina is made) and writing Decorated cardboard human shapes as a spew of verses; line after line showering itself into a sticky notebook. I remember the process being helped considerably by a bottle of cold white wine from Santorini and a scoop full of pasticcio nuts.
Most of the songs on this Album are transcriptions of verses of poetry: Blake, Pete Brown, Lorca, Ginsberg, Dylan Thomas and Jack Kerouac. Decorated cardboard human shapes and A third place were written on Naxos.
